Reflexology for Heartburn/Acid Reflux
If you've never experienced reflexology before, all I can advise is for you to try it. It doesn't matter if you suffer from heartburn/acid reflux or not. Personally speaking, I found it to be great. I felt completely relaxed afterwards with no troubles in the world. My friends, who also suffer from heartburn/acid reflux, had the same relaxed feeling as I did, at the end of the session.
For those of you who aren't sure what reflexology is, it's basically both an art form as well as a science, which focuses on manipulating specific points on both of your feet that correspond to your organs and glands, as well as other parts of your body.
Reflexology is based on the principle, that all your body's organs and tissues are connected by a flow of energy. Therefore by finding the specific point on your foot that relates to the organ in question, and by massaging and manipulating the foot area in specific ways, you can direct the flow of energy to the point or points of your body where the help is needed, thereby helping to stimulate them and activating the natural healing mechanisms of the body in that area.
If done properly, reflexology should not only be soothing, but also help to alleviate stress and tension from all areas of your body.
By working a number of areas on one or both feet, reflexology can help calm both the nerves and muscles of the stomach wall, and settle acid reflux. As it is a calming action on your body, you should find after a few sessions that the number of times a month you suffer from heartburn decreases. You may also find that reflexology cures your heartburn not only in the short term, but also in the long term if you go for regular sessions.
Unfortunately, reflexology isn't suitable for everyone. Many people advise pregnant women not to have this form of treatment. If you are in any doubt, consult your reflexologist, doctor, or both to be sure.
In addition, if you're one of those people who don't like their feet being touched then I'm afraid you should think twice about trying this cure, since it is all about feet touching. If on the other hand, you're like me and don't mind your feet being touched so long as they are not being tickled, then you may find it works. The only way to know if it works is to try it.
